UPnP Security Vulnerability

Posted on February 20, 2013

A security flaw has been discovered in some routers in the implementation of UPnP.  While the business grade routers in most organisations won’t be vulnerable, consideration needs to be given to the home routers of employees that use VPN or other means to access the corporate network.  An exploit against a home router could lead to a compromise of an organisation’s network.

Fortunately Gibson Research Corporation provide a simple scan to check for this vulnerability.

At the website navigate to Services > ShieldsUp!  Click Proceed on the page.  Then run the test.

Running this test only takes a moment and is highly recommended.
